‘RATHA JATRA’ or me ‘Auto Festival’, the most critical celebration of Lord Jagannath initiates on the 29th June, Sunday and Return Car Festival ur’ Bahuda Jatra’ on 07 July in the not so distant future. This bright celebration which draws a large number of fans from different parts of the nation and from abroad to Puri, is held in June-July consistently. ‘Snana Pumima’ marks the start of this celebration. On this day the three gods – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra clean up on an open stage known as ‘Snana Bedi’, Then they resign for 15 days famously called the time of “Anabasara” and stay in seclusion. Throughout this period, no open love is performed. Following 15 days of disengagement, the Gods leave the sanctuary in a bright parade to load up their individual Chariots and from there on starts the adventure known as “Ratha Jatra’.

The much acclaimed Temple Chariot Festival of Lord Jagannath, happens in Puri. On the first day, the Jagannath sanctuary pictures are helped through the road in three colossal thundering chariots which have made this occasion globally known. The chariot of Lord Jagannath, known as ‘Nandighose’, is 23 cubits high and has 18 wheels. The chariot of Balabhadra, which is 22 cubits in stature and has 16 wheels, is named ‘Taladwaja’. “Devadalan” the chariot of Subhadra, is 21 cubits in stature and has 14 wheels.

The chariots are made once again consistently as per strict and antiquated particulars and are pulled by a few thousand aficionados at once. Regarding quality and intense dedication, the Car Festival is one of the world’s most unbelievable scenes.
